As is our family tradition I hired a local photographer to catpure our crew while on vacation. This year I am so excited about who I found! Rachel Serb, of Rachel Serb Photography , based in Chicago, is amazing! She and I clicked right away and she was so easy and wonderful to work with. I told her I was dreaming of a sunny session in front of the iconic “Bean” in Chicago. “The Cloud Gate” also known as “the Bean” is a beautiful structure that I always love to visit when going to the city. The reflection of the Chicago skyline is my favorite!!!! As you know, I grew up in the midwest and Chi-town has a special place in my heart. When I was hired to photograph a wedding there this spring, I couldn’t wait to bring family with me.
With Rachel’s help we planned to meet at the Bean in the early morning hours, while most people were done with their commute and inside working. This provided the most “tourist-free” opportunity for photos! The golden light hitting the edge of this statue was AMAZING! This is just a reminder to everyone – ALWAYS take your photographer’s suggestion for what time of day to shoot, we know a thing or two about it!
Chicago has had the coldest season on record, and this day was certainly not as warm as it looks. Thanks to many layers of clothing, long underwear, and the sunshine we were able to stay warm while playing in this city park.
Rachel has a slogan on her website and it really resonated with me, “Don’t remember how you looked, remember how you felt”.
I totally remember how I felt; happy and in love. I was so happy how the day turned out so perfectly and that we were all healthy and full of life enough to enjoy this morning together. I love each of these boys next to me so much. Holding their chilly little hands, feeling the big hugs, and cheek kisses are moments that will go away but these photos won’t!
