This fall I of course had to take advantage of the gorgeous foliage and be sure my cuties got captured at this fun stage. In between soccer games, family visits, photo sessions, and Ryan’s commitments we always make time to do family photos. I often get asked, “who takes your family photos.” Well, in this case my sister was in town from Colorado and she and my brother-in-law snapped these funny moments. I of course set up the camera and told everyone what to do (#controlfreak).
After seeing these photos, it took me almost a month to “see” them. Are they technically “perfect” – no. Are they “us” – YES! I am so in love with the quirks of each shot because they evoke a memory of that exact time. When life is rushing by we remember less and less about the little moments. Shepherd wore these “tiny stretchy pants” on accident and giggled about it the whole afternoon. Caedmon and Rex are wearing and playing with “slap bracelets” from Ryan’s 40th birthday party the night before. I have my cell phone in my back pocket – the exact thing I remind all parents not to do.
I look back at this year as a whole and it can probably best be described as, “busy.” That is in no way how I want to remember it. I want to remember the in-between moments. The times of silly play around the house, the random movie nights with the boys, the lazy days at the pool, a friend dropping by for lunch, singing together in the car between rehearsals and sports practice, and the afternoons watching them play football outside the front door. The down time around the holidays is a perfect time to search for the “in between” moments of your life’s schedule. Do that this year, scroll through your camera roll and reflect on how truly thankful you are – I know I am!
