When planning for your family photos once you’ve chosen the photographer and the location, the next step is “What to Wear!” Choosing outfits isn’t always easy, but it is worth the extra effort to make your session come together and give a polished look. When you coordinate and have details, down to the perfect shoes, the photos are more consistent and “share-worthy!” Many clients asked me, “What should we wear?!” and I love to offer suggestions or show them past sessions of clients who “got it right!”
My session with the Whalen family was a perfect example of “What to Wear” for a fall family photo session. They dressed for the season, in comfortable clothing that had a coordinated look. These photos will look amazing on their walls for years to come with the classic look they created.
TIP 1: COORDINATE, DON’T MATCH: They choose two main colors and added patterns and accent colors to bring it all together; Navy Blue and Gold with accent Colors of white and pink.
TIP 2: ACCESSORIZE : Adding a touch of color to your accessories or layering another shirt helps add a finished look to your outfit. Case in point: a golden headband and chunky statement necklace
TIP 3: CLOTHING SHOULD FIT & BE IRONED : When searching for kids clothing or adults remember that fit is KEY to the perfect “photo outfit”. Clothing should fit nicely, not too big and not too small, so you and the children are comfortable to move, lay down, and run if asked to do so!
TIP 4: DON’T FORGET THE SHOES: I know, you’ve shopped and shopped, but dont foget the shoes. Neon sneakers don’t mesh well with your perfect holiday look or fall colors.
