CHOOSING A PHOTO SHOOT LOCATION IN THE BOSTON AREA

“I’m planning to do a session this year, but I have no clue where we should do our photos! Any location suggestions?”

When choosing a location for your photo session in the Greater Boston area, the options are endless. From the city, the beach, state parks, and even the mountains all within range – we have a great landscape to explore and I’m always up for it! Did I mention Historical sites? Because Boston is busting with them! These well kept green spaces are everywhere to be found in our awesome city. Keep reading to see some of my favorite Boston area location suggestions and what to look out for when planning your photo shoot.

STYLE

First of all keep in mind your style or the style you want to portray. If you’re hoping to dress up, a city backdrop might be best. If you’re laid back; let’s meet in a park, at the beach, or in the mountains. Do you love the boho look? We can achieve that in the forest. Maybe your home is “farmhouse” themed, then let’s find a historic or country spot so that the photos compliment your style when you hang them in your home. Do you consider yourself timeless and like simplicity, then maybe a classic spot like Boston Public Garden would great great.

DAY TRIPPIN’

To find some of Greater Boston’s best photo locations, I often create a  “day trip” for my family. We explore a bit of New England! This gives us a chance to relax and really enjoy one another as a family before and during our session. The same goes for couples. Do you want a great day-date or desire to enjoy the night life after your session? Let’s pick a place where you can do that! The beach is an awesome option for a destination family session. Afterward, let the kids dive in the water and dry off in the car before grabbing seafood or ice cream as a family. If you’re visiting Boston, you can stroll the waterfront before, after, or during your session and then enjoy hundreds of culinary options when your session is completed. (Feel free to invite your photographer, she may just take you up on it!)

SEASON

Remember, the location is not just about the landscape but also about the season. Thanks to the “four seasons” in New England most places look different quarterly. From bare trees, budding florals, to vibrant colors – you can see it all in one spot! I have tons of suggestions for each look, and especially know my “favorite foliage locations” that I’ll share with you.

YOUR OWN BACKYARD

Yes, actually your own backyard or even your own “indoors”. Sometimes the best spot is right in front of you. Maybe you love to take your pup on walks around your neighborhood or frequent a nearby coffee shop. If this is sentimental to you – let’s photograph it! If you have a cozy home you love, that might be your very best starting point.
